SUGGESTED SUPPLIES We’ll be working in ink and watercolor in this workshop, and the supplies are flexible depending on your own personal preferences. Here are some general recommendations: Sketchbook suitable for ink & watercolor, 140 lb. paper Pencils: Regular#2 pencil or a mechanical pencil with HB lead Erasers: Kneaded eraser, whiteretractable eraser, and/or “Moo” eraser Pens with waterproof ink, such as Faber-Castell Pitt Artist’s Pen (size S), Sakura Pigma Micron pen (size 01), Staedtler Pigment Liner (size 0.05 or 0.1 mm), or a fountain pen filled with waterproof ink. Watercolor paints: I recommend artist’s quality tube watercolor paints, squeezed into a palette and allowed to dry. Good brands are Winsor & Newton, Daniel Smith, Holbein, Schminke, and Cheap Joe’s American Journey. A list of colors is detailed in the full supply list. Palette: Choose a plastic or metal palette to fill with tube watercolor paint. Be sure the palette has generous spaces for mixing. Alternatively, you can use a prefilled palette with a basic selection of colors. See the full supply list for palette recommendations. Brushes: Watercolor brushes, synthetic or sable. Bring whatever size and type you like to work with, such as these options: rounds (#2, 4, 6, 8, 12), and flats: ½”, ¾” Optional: a compass, ruler, tracing paper, various colored pens,masking fluid, toothbrush, etc. BIO Leslie Fehling is a watercolor artist, workshop instructor, and art blogger from western PA. Her illustrated watercolor journals are filled with sketches that celebrate everyday life and chronicle her travels. She has taught sketchbook journaling and watercolor workshops in the US and abroad since 2014. Her unique approach to illustrated watercolor journaling and her enthusiastic teaching style have made her a sought-after instructor, and her workshops have empowered students of all skill levels to think more creatively and paint with greater confidence.
