Service Description

*Recording will be available to you for 30 days. 1st part of class - learn how to combine primary colors to establish a variety of colors & hues. I believe less is more, buying better quality paints that mix well and learning how to mix a variety of colors saves money and gives the artist a wonderful sense of satisfaction of achievement. We will produce a basic color chart using Cad Red, Ultramarine Blue, Lemon Yellow, or Light Yellow and, a little later on, bring in Raw Umber. We’ll also discuss techniques in the application, such as wet on wet, wet on dry, lifting, etc. Along with these techniques, we’ll discuss how you can use a brush in different ways to provide multiple effects. 2nd part will be the project, “Sea Oats at Sunset". It's an excellent way to apply the techniques we discussed. With only 4 colors, we will create an 11x14 watercolor suitable for framing. Materials: Winsor Newton Cadmium Red W.N. Ultramarine Blue W.N. Lemon Yellow or Light Cadmium Yellow W.N. Raw Umber #4 Round Brush #8 Round Brush 3/8” Angle Brush ¾” Flat Brush ¼” Flat Brush (stiff bristle for lifting) 11x14 140# Watercolor paper. Originally from Wisconsin, I've been involved in art since childhood. Primarily self- taught, I've spent many years developing my skills in various mediums, from drawing to watercolor, oils, acrylic, & pastels. My husband, son, and I moved to Kauai, Hawaii, in 1987. I was active in the local art scene, exhibiting at a co-op gallery in Hanalei, Kauai. In 1997, we moved to Florida. Although I have no "formal education", I've worked under the tutelage of several artists in the 1970's. I did an intensive oil class with Martin Pribble and Wayne Gunness, a watercolor artist in Wisconsin. I also taught drawing at his studio. I am Grumbacher certified and have taught drawing, acrylic, and watercolor classes at multiple venues in the Sarasota/Bradenton area. I've participated in “Paint Arounds” for charity and featured in Art Battle Sarasota in 1999. Teaching classes at Rocky Bluff Library in Ellenton and other local Libraries through their Creative Aging programs gives me great pleasure. My current project is illustrating a children's book that my grandfather wrote almost 65 years ago. I am on the board of directors of Parrish Arts Council, an organization that promotes arts education in Manatee County. *During payment process, to bypass Paypal, click on “Try another way”.
