Service Description

This workshop is designed to help you explore and express your personal style of painting with watercolors. This class is suitable for beginners as well as more accomplished watercolor artists. Gene Rizzo is a highly-regarded watercolorist whose style of instruction and interaction with students includes valuable one-on-one instruction. You will most definitely have fun and really enjoy this workshop. This workshop focuses on painting a tranquil yet exquisitely nuanced beach scene. You will be provided reference photos of the subject scene as well as a sketch on 140# Arches or equal watercolor paper on which you will create your finished painting. STUDENT-PROVIDED MATERIALS 1. First and foremost, bring YOU and your eagerness to have fun and enjoy learning some new, unique, and interesting watercolor techniques. 2. Extra small sheets of your favorite watercolor paper for sampling and testing colors. 3. Additional watercolor paper to possibly paint additional images - cut into 15” x 11”. 4. Brushes: Your array of brushes including Flats, Rounds, Fan, Special (Liners, etc.) 5. Scrapers, paring knife, palette knife, sponges, pencils & erasers, spray bottle, paper towels, a solid board on which to place your watercolor paper, water container, etc. 6. WC Paints: Bring your Existing Palette plus tubes/pans of the following colors: "WARM" & "COOL" paints of the Three Primary Colors: Red. Yellow and Blue. Manganese Blue Sap Green or Hooker's Green or Viridian Transparent Red Iron Oxide or Burnt Sienna Transparent Brown Oxide or Burnt Umber Plus your favorite colors ARTIST RECOMMENDATIONS Use your own favorite watercolor paper for the extra sheets, but you will get the best results with Mr. Rizzo's preferred papers which include Arches 140# & 300# Cold Pressed watercolor paper and Saunders-Waterford 200# & 300# Cold Pressed watercolor paper. Bring your own choice of brushes from any manufacturer, either sable or synthetic. For paints, Mr. Rizzo recommends M. Graham, Holbein, Daniel Smith, and DaVinci Note that this workshop runs from 9:30am to 3:00pm and includes a 1/2 hour break for lunch. Be sure to bring a sandwich or other snack. The Carriage House Studio at Villa Serena provides several choices of complimentary beverage including water, many coffee selections (including standard blends and flavored coffees), hot chocolate, and mocha for you to enjoy throughout your day in our studio.
