Silk Painting 3 part Class

Plan to roll up your sleeves and get a little messy. We will focus on a single flower for our design theme. Bring in a few pictures or photos of your favorites and I will help you with the composition. You really need no experience to try silk painting and I promise you that it IS addictive. Texturing, negative work and depth will be created by the layering of colors. If you do not draw well, not to worry. Your only limitation will be your lack of enthusiasm. So just dig in & enjoy! This class is a lot of fun...so bring an open mind and lots of creativity...  

What to Bring:  Cookie sheet w/lip Old coffee cup Kleenex Water Containers – 2 small, as in yogurt or butter cups. Table salt: or other size salts you may have. Don’t go out and buy other sizes. Push Pins: 50 -100-can buy at the Dollar Store (NOT THUMB TACKS) Small hammer Broad tipped black sharpie: Old Wash cloth: – to clear your brush of excess dye or water. Mister Masking tape $40 Kits include:  Jacquard Silk Scarf 22” x 22” Habotai Fineline Applicator w/ 8mm tip Jacquard Removable Resist 10 1-oz. cups w/lids Stretcher rental Freezer paper for drawing prep 8oz. of Dye-na-flow paint which should be adequate to complete the project OR! Purchase those items online.  I use Dharma Trading  -An alternate silk could be Crepe du chine - Stretcher rental is $5.00  -Supply lidded containers and Renolds freezer paper  

ABOUT THE ARTIST:  Dawn Geradot Putman has appreciated and loved art her whole life. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of St. Francis, she began to actively pursue a career in fine art in 1995. The dominant medium base of her artwork is any combination of watercolors, inks, dyes, fluid acrylics, heavy body acrylics or pastels. She believes the beauty of these water-based & chalk-based materials is in their unpredictability: Dawn comments, “I love to observe what happens when paints mingle naturally on paper, canvas or silk. Although I control the amount of color to be distributed, wonderful accidents do happen, and these accidents are the reason for my fascination with water & chalk mediums. I truly believe in color and the brighter, the better. I know the Lord gave me a beautiful gift which I love to share. I love to color my world in His name.
